Adenoidectomy

Category Adenoidectomy

The removal of adenoids also called an adenoidectomy, is a common surgery for removing adenoids. The adenoids are glands located behind the soft palate in the roof of the mouth, where the nose connects to the throat.
The adenoids produce white blood cells or antibodies, that help fight infections. Typically, the adenoids shrink during adolescence and may disappear by adulthood.

Doctors often perform adenoid removals and tonsillectomies — together removing the tonsils. Chronic throat infections and respiratory infections often cause both glands to become inflamed and infected.
